PURPOSE:To reduce an interaction by a soft magnetic material layer and a hard magnetic material layer for shielding, and to improve a reproducing frequency characteristic by forming the biasing magnet corresponding parts of the first and the second shielding layers, in the shape separated mutually from the part corresponding to an MR element. CONSTITUTION:As for the first and the second soft magnetic material layers 2, 9, at least the corresponding part of its hard magnetic material layer 4 is formed in the shape separated mutually from the part corresponding to a high magnetic permeability magnetic material layer 6. Therefore, an interaction by the soft magnetic material layers 2, 9 and the hard magnetic material layer 4, namely, a leakage of a bias magnetic field is reduced, and a reproducing frequency characteristic of an MR head can be improved. In said case, it is important that a length of a groove is made longer in the direction as indicated with an arrow A than a length of the hard magnetic material layer 4.
