PURPOSE:To eliminate scatter of color tone and record an image with high quality, by recording by using a plurality of inks which have different dye concentrations and are so selected that the relation between the maximum and the minimum of pH values of the inks is set in a specified range. CONSTITUTION:Ink jet recording is performed by using inks of one or more colors, such that a plurality of inks of the same color differ in the concentration of a dye, and are so conditioned as to satisfy the relation represented by the formula, wherein pHmax and pHmin are respectively the maximum and the minimum of pH values of the inks. Each of the inks is composed of a dye as a recording agent component and a solvent component consisting of water and a water-soluble solvent. An acid, a base, an acidic salt, a basic salt, a buffering agent or the like is used as a pH-controlling agent for the inks, and it is preferable to use an amine, an alkali metal hydroxide or the like.
