<p>An oil shale-based glassy composition of matter is manufactured by admixing oil shale with clay, sand and/or limestone as necessary to provide ratios between the constituents in the range of SiO2: Al2O3 = 1.1 to 3.5 and CaO: SiO2 = 1.1 to 2.25. The mixture is heated to a fully liquidus melt and by quenching a glassy mass is produced. The oil shale-based glassy composition possesses latent hydraulic activity and thus can be successfully utilised as cement by admixing the finely ground glassy mass, with one or more activators selected from Portland cement, gypsum or lime.</p> |
