An access point and a method for transmitting information about an MIH(Media Independent Handover) protocol are provided to inform a mobile node whether an access point in a heterogeneous network, to which the mobile node wants to move, supports the MIH protocol defined by IEEE(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) 802.21 specifications. An access point comprises the followings: a wired interface module(330) for receiving indication information, indicating whether an access point which manages a neighboring heterogeneous subnet supports a protocol for performing MIH(Media Independent Handover), through a wired network; a storage module(350) for storing the received indication information; a frame generating module(340) for generating a frame including the stored indication information; and a wireless interface module(310) for transmitting the generated frame to a mobile node.
