CODING METHOD FOR ERROR CORRECTION

PURPOSE:To prevent data from being lost because of the difference in the number of quantized bits by deciding the length of one series to an integral number of multiple of the least common multiple in adopting plural kinds of length of symbols of the digital information data. CONSTITUTION:Each column in longitudinal direction is taken as one block and M blocks are arranged laterally. An audio PCM signal in one block is N words and signals of (NXM words) are arranged in total. An error detecting code C1 is applied to each block in the longitudinal direction of the two dimensional arrangement of this signal and an error correcting code C2 is applied in the lateral direction. A check code P in n-word of this detecting code C1 is included in each block and the detecting code C1 is coded also to a check code Q in m- word of the correcting code C2. The number of words N of one block of the detecting code C1 is selected so that similar error correction coding is processed for l1-bit or l2-bit of the word length of an audio PCM data and the length of one block is taken as an integral number of multiple of the least common multiple L of the word lengths l1 and l2.
