A magneto-elastic torque sensor for measuring the torque transmitted by a shaft (4), having at least two stationary energising windings (10, 11) for producing a magnetic alternating field, and having at least two stationary measurement windings (8, 9) for obtaining a measurement signal, which measurement and energising windings are arranged concentrically with respect to the shaft, and having a magnetic core (5), which is likewise arranged concentrically with respect to the shaft, on the one hand encloses the shaft and the windings and on the other hand forms a symmetrically located separating wall between the windings, the windings being arranged and supplied such that, on the one hand, fluxes of equal magnitude are excited on both sides of the separating wall in the unloaded state and, on the other hand, the difference is determined between the said fluxes which occur when the shaft is loaded with a torque. According to the invention, a sleeve consisting of soft-magnetic material is mounted on the shaft, such that it is fixed with respect to torque, in the region between the windings and the core, this sleeve having two parallel zones (2, 3) which are at a specific axial distance from one another and in which there are mutually parallel slots which, with the envelope line of the cylindrical sleeve, which line is parallel to the axis, form an angle of +45 DEG in the one zone and an angle of -45 DEG in the other zone. <IMAGE>
