The preparation of 2-isopropenyloxazolines of the formula (I) in which R<1> and R<2> can be linear or branched alkyl radicals which have 1-8 C atoms and which are optionally substituted by hydroxyl and/or alkoxy groups, or phenyl radicals which can optionally be substituted by hydroxyl and/or alkoxy groups, is characterised in that methacrylonitrile is reacted with 2-aminoalcohols of the formula (II) in which R<1> and R<2> can have the meaning given above, at elevated temperature in the presence of a catalyst.
