PURPOSE:To obtain with a high work efficiency an electrode enabling a battery to have increased capacity and performance by drying a kneaded mixture containing both an active material mixture and a fluorocarbon polymer before the dried mixture is crushed and granulated, then adding solution of a viscous agent to the granulated mixture before the mixture is again dried and crushed prior to being molded and thermally treated. CONSTITUTION:After a fluorocarbon polymer such as polytetrafluoroethylene used as a binder and a liquid member are added to an active material mixture, the mixture is kneaded and dried before being crushed and granulated. The thus obtained powder is kneaded with solution of a viscous agent such as polyvinyl alcohol, then the kneaded mixture is dried and crushed. The thus obtained powder is subjected to pressure molding before being thermally treated at a temperature not lower than the decomposition temperature of the viscous agent, for example over about 200 deg.C, thereby making an electrode plate for a battery. By the means mentioned above, the porosity of the plate is increased, the liquid content of the plate is increased and the performance of the battery is improved. |
