The invention relates to a gripping device for the layered discharge of clay bricks fired in stacks, with gripping jaws which are arranged on the gripper frame and are moveable up to one another for pushing together and gripping the clay bricks in the layer to be discharged and for pushing together and holding the layer of clay bricks situated underneath the layer to be discharged. The gripper jaws are divided up into individual narrow finger-type strips of different lengths, the shorter and longer finger-type strips being arranged next to one another on axles so as to be alternately pivotable. A pressure cylinder is assigned to each shorter and longer finger-type strip in each case, which pressure cylinders are attached to gripper arms and initiate pivoting of the finger-type strips independently of one another.
