PURPOSE:To make sure character recognition possible by installing a memory for storing the pattern of more than two characters to a character recognizing device and selecting the cutting location of a pattern by finding the vertically projected histogram of the pattern. CONSTITUTION:A character pattern of one line quantity from a scanner 1 is stored in an one-line pattern memory 2. The vertically projected histogram of character in the memory 2 is implemented by a microprocessor 8. By using the histogram, one character quantity of the character pattern is designated by operating an Y-address counter 4 and X-address counter 3 and stored in an one- character pattern memry 6. Then the pattern of the memory 6 is recognized at a recognizing section 7. Therefore, the cutting of one character quantity can be performed surely.
