PURPOSE:To attain accurate transmission of information without missing in transmitted and received data even if an original, shape of sheat and size handled by a device of communication side and a device of receiving side are different by transmitting data in the form of data depending on the shape and size of a recording paper sheet of the device at the receiving side. CONSTITUTION:In reading an original G, an electric charge image corresponding to the arrangement of picture elements on each scanning line from picture information on scanning lines B11-B1n, B21-B2n, B31-B3n and B41-B4n is obtained and the information in areas R1-R4 is stored in a picture memory M sequentially. The read is performed by the control of a control section C, and the data of the area R1 is all read out at first and then the data of the areas R2, R3 and R4 are read similarly one after another. The direction of reading is the direction of the arrow shown in Fig. (a). An identification code is added to the head and end of each area and the result is transmitted to a device J at the receiving side. Since the data is transmitted from the transmission side to the device J of the receiving side in the unit of split area, the reproduced information of the split areas R1-R4 is all recorded on one sheet of recording paper. Areas R5-R8, R9-R12, and R13-R16 are transmitted similarly as above after the information in the areas R1-R4 is transmitted from the device at the transmission side.
