As an apparatus for sealing the gap between door leaf and door frame of a closed fire door or the like in the event of a fire, a bimetallic multiple contact strip approximately U-shaped in cross-section is proposed, which is combined with a sealing strip of pure aluminium or a material having similar heat resistance properties. In the event of a fire, said sealing strip is pressed against the appropriate sealing surface by the bimetallic multiple contact strip. The sealing strip deforms under these conditions and compensates for unevennesses at the sealing surface which occur at said surface as a result of distortions or the like due to the effect of heat.
