A method of sintering a pulverulent material wherein the material is heated to a treating temperature in gaseous suspension in a duct (1) from which it is discharged with a rotary flow in the upper end of a slightly inclined rotating cylindrical reaction chamber (2) so that the material is separated from the suspension and deposited on the wall of the reaction chamber and slides down the chamber to an outlet.
