PURPOSE:To enhance the flexural rigidity of an automobile body without the cross-sectioned area of a pillar being enlarged, by providing such an arrangement that a spacer is disposed between and integrally connected to flange sections. CONSTITUTION:A spacer 3 made of, for example, rigid materials and having an I-shaped cross-section is disposed between flanges 1r, 2r which are formed along the rear edges of outer and inner plates 1, 2 extending substantially in parallel together, and is integrally connected, at its both left and right end faces, to the inner surfaces of the inner and outer plates 1, 2 by spot-welding so that the flanges 1r, 2r are made rigid by the spacer 3. Further, the outer and inner plates 1, 2 and the spacer 3 form a closed cross-section shaped structure. The intermediate part 3m of the spacer 3 which corresponds to a window section Bw has a uniform I-shaped cross-section, but each of the upper and lower parts 3d, 3u has variable-shaped cross-sections having tapered ends. |
