LEAD-ACID BATTERY

PURPOSE:To obtain a separator having a satisfactory function regardless of a low cost by making a mat-type separator by laminating a dense layer and a coarse layer two or more times, and arranging the dense layer on a positive side and the coarse layer on a negative side. CONSTITUTION:Glass fibers having 5-10mum diameter is mixed with synthetic fibers having 5-20mum diameter and inorganic powder and a paper-like sheet having a thickness of about 1/3 of the final thickness is made. Three sheets each of which has about 1/3 thickness are laminated so that the coarse layer 4 in which fibers are rich is placed on the face and the dense layer 5 in which inorganic powder is rich is placed on the back to obtain a mat 3. The mat 3 is arranged between a positive electrode 1 and a negative electrode 2 so that the coarse layer 4 is faced to the positive electrode 1 and the dense layer 5 is faced to the negative electrode 2 to form a sealed lead-acid battery. A function by which passing through of coming-off particles is prevented and a function by which oxygen is dufficiently supplied to the negative electrode are simultaneously satisfied regardless of a low cost.
