PURPOSE:To make the heat resistance and mechanical strength of a device increasable, by mixing a fibriform ceramic in a long glass fiber to be set up inside an exhaust passage formed in a stratified body, while exposing its surface to an exhaust stream. CONSTITUTION:Exhaust gas out of an engine flows into a first compartment 10, then flows into a second compartment 11 and is discharged into the atmosphere via a perforated tail pipe 9. In time of passing through this perforated tail pipe 9, the exhaust gas runs in and out through a third compartment 12, a fourth compartment 13 and an empty space 14 inside a blind tube 8 via the tail pipe 9 whereby exhaust sonic energy is absorbed by means of expansion, reflection, resonance, etc., and sound absorbing action is further accelerated by an adiabatic soundproof member 3 stretchedly installed around the peripheral walls of these 1st - 3rd compartments 10-12. The adiabatic soundproof member 3 is made up in conttony-form by mixing a ceramic fiber of 35% or so containing potash 50% and silicic acid 52% as main components with the long glass fiber and then formed by means of press molding into the same form as the inner surface of a muffler outer plate 1. |
