PURPOSE:To obtain a thermoplastic resin capable of providing a product of high- temperature injection molding excellent in surface gloss, by emulsion-copolymerizing a mixture of an aromatic vinyl monomer with a vinyl cyanide monomer in the presence of an agglomerated rubber latex with the aid of a specified polymerization initiator. CONSTITUTION:In copolymerizing a mixture of an aromatic vinyl monomer with a vinyl cyanide monomer or a mixture containing these monomers and a vinyl monomer copolymerizable therewith in the presence of a latex of agglomerated rubber of a number-average particle diameter of 0.1-1.0mu, obtained by pressure agglomeration of a latex of a diene rubber of a number-average particle diameter <0.1mu; said copolymerization is carried out by using a polymerization initiator of formula I or II (wherein R is H, alkyl, acyl, or alkyloxycarbonyl), e.g., t-butyl hydroperoxide. This resin can provide a molding excellent in surface gloss, especially when it is molded by a high-temperature injection molding process, because it is possible to prevent the coagulation phenomenon of small- diameter rubber particles due to the heat hysteresis of a molten resin. |
