The unit for treating a product in counterflow comprises a drum (1) which is rotatable about its horizontal axis. The drum is internally provided with annular partitions (4) forming successively connecting inwardly open channels in the manner of a helical screw, through which the product passes from one end of the drum to the other. - At two diametrically opposed points, a perforated plate (8) extends between each pair of partitions from an axial line (9) at the inner drum wall to a line (10) half-way the radial width of the partitions. The plate continues from there outwards as triangular portions. Between these portions (11.14), each partition is provided with an opening (16) which connects the adjoining channels and permits the treating liquid to move in axial direction.
