In the case of a cleaning device for motor vehicles, a storage container for a cleaning liquid is accommodated at a point to which access is difficult and/or outside the engine compartment. In order to be able to refill the storage container quickly and in the customary manner, a feed pump which usually serves to convey cleaning liquid to the surfaces to be cleaned is switched such that it conveys cleaning liquid via a supply line to the storage container. The supply line ends at the customary point in the engine compartment of the motor vehicle.
