The invention relates to a process and a device for the "vertical" joining of a branch connection to a duct under pressure. According to the invention, after the piercing of the duct (1) through a channel (11) provided in the plug of the tap (4), the piercing tool (2) is withdrawn partially and the fluid is prevented from flowing out with the aid of auxiliary sealing means (17) which are arranged in such a way as to permit the installation of the long-term means for shutting off the channel (11), for example a screwed stopper (22), without the latter being subjected to the pressure of the fluid during its fitting.
