PURPOSE:To enhance the characteristics of lubrication, by providing an oil sump in a housing supporting a differential gear casing, in the upper section of a vehicle, so that lubricating oil in the oil sump is forcedly applied in the casing by rotating the casing. CONSTITUTION:When a ring gear 3 is rotated in the direction of the arrow by being driven by an idler gear 4, lubricating oil in a housing 1 is splashed up in the same direction by the teeth of the ring gear 3, and therefore, is pooled in an oil sump 1c formed in the wall of the housing 1. A part of this lubricating oil is discharged to the side surface of a pinion main shaft 8 through oil passages 13 through 18, 11 and holes in a collar 23, and the remaining part of the lubricating oil is discharged to the pinion gear 9 supporting section of the above-mentioned shaft 8 through oil passages 24, 12, 26 under pressure by the above-mentioned splash-up and its weight. Then, lubricating oil reaches a meshed part between a side gear and a pinion gear 9 to lubricate the same part, and as well, to lubricate the pinion gear 9 supporting section of the pinion main shaft 8. |
