Method and device for hydrogenating hydrogenable organic compounds with cathodically released hydrogen

Hydrogenable compounds, in particular alcohols, can be hydrogenated with cathodically released hydrogen by bringing them into contact with the catalyst-coated back of the cathode, which is itself permeable to hydrogen. The procedure is suitable, in particular, for the hydrogenation of methanol with cathodically released hydrogen in a water electrolysis as part of a hybrid cyclic process for hydrogen production together with a steam reformation and a methanol synthesis as further substeps in the cyclic process.
