<p>NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula I (R1 is H or Br). EXAMPLE:3-(4-Phenoxyphenoxy)-4-fluorobenzaldehyde. USE:A raw material of a novel insecticide having low toxicity to fish and represented by formula II [R2 is H, cyano or ethynyl; R3 is group of formula III(X is Cl or Br), etc.]. PROCESS:The compound of formula I can be prepared by reacting the acetal of formula IV (R2 and R3 are lower alkyl or bonded together at the terminals to form alkylene residue) with the 4-phenoxyphenol of formula V in a solvent in the presence of a base and copper or a copper compound preferably in an N2 atmosphere, and treating the reaction product with a mineral acid such as hydrochloric acid to remove the acetal group acting as a protecting group.</p> |
