PURPOSE:To improve the output characteristics over a wide band by forming the 1st nonmagnetic metallic layer on a nonmagnetic support in an insular or finely uneven state and by successively forming an Fe-base continuous magnetic metallic thin layer, the 2nd nonmagnetic metallic layer and a Co-base continuous magnetic metallic thin layer on the 1st nonmagnetic metallic layer. CONSTITUTION:The 1st nonmagnetic metallic layer 2 of a low m.p. metal such as Sb or Bi is formed on a nonmagnetic support 1 of polyimide or the like in 10-1,000Angstrom thickness in an insular or finely uneven state. The 1st continuous magnetic metallic thin layer 3 of Fe or an Fe alloy is formed on the layer 2, the 2nd nonmagnetic metallic layer 4 is formed on the layer 3 is an insular or finely uneven state, and the 2nd continuous magnetic metallic thin layer 5 of Co or a Co alloy is formed on the layer 4. By forming said nonmagnetic layers 2, 4, the 1st magnetic layer 3 having high saturation magnetic flux density, the 2nd magnetic layer 5 having large coercive force and the layers 2, 4 are formed by vertical vapor deposition giving high vapor deposition efficiency, and a magnetic recording medium having high output characteristics over a wide frequency band is obtd. |
