A piston ring is arranged in an annular groove of a piston, in particular a piston of an internal combustion engine. The side walls of the annular groove extend obliquely to the axis of the piston and preferably parallel to one another. To create a piston-ring arrangement which can be manufactured with a low outlay and has sufficient leak-tightness, a plain or taper-face compression ring known per se is dimensioned in such a way that, in the region of its outer circumference, it rests against one side wall of the annular groove and, in the region of its inner circumference, rests against the other side wall of the annular groove.
