Braking methods and the apparatus therefor are provided in accordance with the teachings of the present invention. According to one embodiment of this invention the rotation of a rotating device is detected and the angular disposition thereof is determined. The relative angular disposition of said rotating device is compared with the time of occurrence of a condition requiring the arrest of said rotating device. A brake signal adapted to produce hysteresis braking of the rotating device is generated in accordance with the comparison, whereby the velocity of said rotating device is rapidly reduced such that said rotating device halts at a desired angular disposition. |
