The input of specific orders, which may concern service and connection orders, is carried out by means of a corresponding voice instruction. This order input by voice is carried out following actuation of a signal key. An identification code is thus transmitted to the switching device, which effects the activation of a special connector set (S), in the exchange (VSt), containing a speech recognition device. The requesting subscriber (T) is made aware of the performed activation by means of an attention signal generated on the basis of corresponding return information on the telephone terminal, which signal serves as a speech prompt. The respective recognised order word may be transmitted via a corresponding speech output device (SG) as acknowledgment information to the telephone terminal, where it is audibly reproduced. In the switching device, signal information corresponding to the meaning of the received order word is derived to initiate the associated follow-on functions. The stock of commands can easily be modified and supplemented, in particular with a view to future services. Procedure keys are thus no longer required and operation is simplified. Since the command words can be transmitted in telephone networks, equipment facilities can be used in long-distance traffic. Existing and conventional telephone stations on PABX systems with a signal button can be used. <IMAGE>
