In order, in a device for coupling a trailer to a towing vehicle in which a coupling ring engages in the mouth of a coupling element and is held in the latter by means of a bolt which penetrates the coupling element, to reliably and completely exclude the play occurring between the coupling ring and coupling bolt with the smallest degree of expenditure both in terms of constructional devices and in terms of actuation force, it is proposed that inside the coupling element a pressing-on element be mounted so as to be capable of being displaced via an actuation slide in the direction of the coupling ring and that the actuation slide be acted on with the force of a prestressed energy accumulator.
