A continuous casting machine for the production of metal products in the form of wires, rods or the like has a housing which contains a liquid-cooled casting mould with an inlet and outlet, a nozzle at the inlet of the casting mould with a boundary surface between the two, the nozzle opening towards a reservoir of molten material and having a connection to the casting mould, transport means for pulling the metal product out of the casting mould, a cavity enclosing at least a portion of the nozzle and the boundary surface, and also feed means for the supply of inert gas to this cavity. The inert gas prevents contact between the metal and the external atmosphere, and hence an oxidation process.
