The constructional prop comprises telescoping tubes with a stop limiting the amount of extension formed by an external collar on the inner tube, overlapping an internal stop on the outer one. The collar slides against the inside of the outer tube to form a guide. An external circlip (15), which can be expanded in the radial direction, is fitted over the internal tube (2) in front of a transition ramp face (14) leading to the collar. Its cross-section is such that it does not protrude beyond the periphery (M) of the collar, and it is expanded by the transition ramp face in the fully-extended position.
