The drain plug for emptying a basin, bath etc. comprises a vertical sleeve (14) the upper rim (15) of which receives a vertically displaceable plug (79). A rod (78) threads into the plug (79) and extends down to bear against an actuating lever (55) which is pivotally mounted to the wall of a truncated conical section (22). The upper end of the section (22) bears against the basin as it screws onto the lower end of the sleeve (14) whilst the lower end (44) is threaded to receive the connecting nut (48) for e.g. U-bent piping.
