The present invention relates to riprap permeable to water for the stabilisation of bank slopes, canal bottoms or the like, which riprap consists of a sand-retaining filter mat (2) and of shaped concrete blocks or the like which are arranged on the filter mat (2), are in each case staggered and arranged at a distance from one another and are connected to one another via ropes (5) of stainless material to form a flexible stone mat. In order to develop a riprap of this type while retaining its advantages in such a way that the plant biological growth is encouraged, provision is made according to the invention for the shaped blocks, in a manner known per se, to have a length (L) which corresponds to a multiple of their width (B) and for them to be held at a distance from one another in each case via spacers (6), for the shaped blocks to be arranged in the riprap in such a way that their longitudinal axis is orientated essentially horizontally, and for the top side of the shaped blocks which is remote from the filter mat to be convexly curved at least at one point in a longitudinal section at right angles to the plane of the filter mat. <IMAGE>
