A three-dimensional effect is usually achieved by displaying images in two colours, commonly red and green; the images being offset from one another by an amount that determines the apparent depth. The picture is viewed through a pair of spectacles having green and red filters to left and right. Any image in this system to be seen by both eyes must therefore be a mixture of both colours, but this is inherently impossible with some types of display unit. The present system therefore has a third image, in a third colour, which can be detected by both eyes.
