PURPOSE:To enable an intake apparatus of an engine to accord with both low and high speed operations by arranging an intake port for generating a strong vortex and an intake port for generating a weak vortex to eliminate a port opening/closing valve. CONSTITUTION:A mixed gas is introduced through intake valves 24 and 25 from intake ports 18 and 20 at the intake stroke where a piston lowers as indicated by the broken line and the solid line. A vortex S1 as indicated by the solid line and that S2 by the broken line are formed centered on points A and B on both sides of the center line X-X of the cylinder in such a manner as not to interfer with each other. This leaves a strong vortex immediately before the end of the compression stroke where the piston rises thereby providing a strong torque at the low speed of the engine with a better combustion. On the other hand, in the operation at the high speed, an intake port 20 for generating a weak vortex introduces an ample amount of intake air to a combustion chamber without lowering the intake efficiency a bit. |
