PURPOSE:To obtain excellent output characteristics in a short-wavelength range, by bringing the contacting length of a core half bodies at the run-out side of a magnetic recording medium to nearly <=3 times as great as the maximum recording wavelength of a recorded signal. CONSTITUTION:A magnetic head 1 is made into a peak type head by shortening the lengths l1 and l2 of magnetic recording medium sliding surfaces 4a and 4b of the front end surfaces of core half bodies 1a and 1b as much as possible, thereby increasing the pressure of contacting with the magnetic recording medium. In concrete, the contacting lengths l1 and l2 are set at <=3 times as great as the maximum value of recording wavelength lambda, i.e. 40-50mum. Consequently, the pressure which is in contact with a tape is increased and excellent output characteristics in a short-wavelength range are obtained even when the running tension of the recording medium is decreased. |
