NEW MATERIAL:An antitumor substance >=10,000mol wt. (measured by using a molecular sieve); weakly acidic (5-6pH); color: light yellow; specific rotatory power alpha <20>D:0(C=0.1%, 0.1N NaOH) . EXAMPLE:Substance SU-100. USE:An antitumor agent. PROCESS:A finely divided material of an echinoderm, e.g. the subphylum Pelmatozoa (to which Comanthus japonica, etc. belong), Asterozoa (to which Asterias amurensis, etc. belong) or Eleutherozoa (to which Anthocidaris crassipsina, etc. belong) is extracted with an aqueous solvent, and the resultant extract is then subjected to one or more treatments selected from the group consisting of the ultrafiltration, gel filtration, dialysis, precipitation with an organic solvent, treatment with an ion exchange resin, salting out and electrophoresis, to collect a fraction having >=10,000mol wt. and give the aimed antitumor substance. |
