Working appliances, such as, for example, flail-type mowers, which are articulated on the free end of a jib mounted on a carrier vehicle, are, when in use, to exert a load on the ground with only some of their weight. The invention provides a device by means of which a set reduced bearing pressure of the working appliance on the ground is kept constant even when the working distance from the carrier vehicle varies. There is therefore no need for a separate raising and lowering of the jib during such a change. For this, the pressure-medium cylinder pivoting the jib arm located near the vehicle can be connected selectively to the hydraulic system of the carrier vehicle or to the hydraulic system of the working appliance. A throttle is arranged in its main pressure-medium line, and a pressure-regulating valve is arranged in a pressure-medium feed line branching off to the pressure-medium cylinder in front of the throttle. Further measures ensure that the moment resulting from the force of the pressure-medium cylinder and its effective distance from the point of articulation of the jib arm is proportional to the distance of the working appliance from the carrier vehicle. <IMAGE>
