The folding chair is for use in an auditorium etc. having a backrest and a seat, the former being fixed to the floor. The seat is divided into two, the rear section (2)being fixed to the backrest (1) or integral with it, while the front section (3) folds upwards. A bracket (5) can be fixed to the rear section, having a rear tube higher (6) than the seat, and on which a front tube (8) hinges upwards. A tension spring (9) attached between the tubes swings the front one, which is fixed via a bracket to the front section, upwards automatically on the occupant leaving the seat.
