In a device for milling the laminates of a commutator between the insulation layers, having a milling cutter and an electrical scanning device which rests on the commutator and emits an electrical signal for controlling the correct positioning of the miller during contact with the insulation layer which exists between two laminates, it is proposed that the scanning device (30) be arranged at a short distance for effective cutting of the milling cutter (14), which advantageously corresponds to approximately half the thickness of the laminate (25) of the commutator, the scanning device (30) being movable in the plane and movement direction of the milling cutter and resting against the commutator (12) by spring force.
