The invention relates to a method of producing calcined mineral ores of low sulphur content, in which mineral concentrates are treated with an excess of oxidising gas in a fluidised-bed reactor (10), a reductive atmosphere being maintained over the fluidised bed (15) by, for instance, the introduction of a carbon-containing reducing agent which is fed via a line (17) opening out above the fluidised bed, so that the total amount of SO2 present is effectively reduced and the recombining of sulphur with the calcined ore concentrate is thereby reduced to a minimum. <IMAGE>
