In self-service shops, expensive shop furniture is bordered by means of guide bars which can be attached to the floor to protect it from damage which can be caused by shopping trolleys. Previously, a right-angled course of guide bars has only been produced in a satisfactory manner by single-part connecting pieces. However, these connecting pieces cannot be used for an acute-angled or obtuse-angled course. The invention therefore discloses a connecting unit (1, 1') for joining two guide bars (14) which can be attached to the floor, which unit is designed as a joint which can be pivoted about a vertical axis, each half (2, 2') of the joint being connected to one guide bar (14) in each case. As a result, a multiplicity of acute-angled or obtuse-angled guide bar arrangements can be produced. <IMAGE>
