PURPOSE:To prevent occurrence of silver breakage and unevenness in starting a card, by providing an electromagnetic clutch between a cylinder driving system and a doffer driving system and further installing a variable speed motor and the second electromagnetic clutch in the latter. CONSTITUTION:A cylinder driving system 2 and doffer driving system having respective separate driving motors (M1) and (M2) are connected with an electromagnetic clutch (MC1). The doffer driving system is equipped with a variable speed motor drivable by a variable frequency electric power source and the second electromagnetic clutch (MC2). In starting a card, both motors are driven and only the first clutch (MC1) is connected at the same time. When the number of revolutions attains a given value, the first clutch (MC1) is separated to connect the second clutch (MC2).
