The cigarette mfg. machine has a suction conveyor along which double length rods of tobacco are fed. Double length filter rods are placed between successive rods and are held in place by strips of uniting material which are applied by a drum with suction ports. The adhesive coated strips are wrapped around the composite rods by a pair of rotary tucker members with the carrier tape on which the strips rests beginning the folding operation. When the strips are in place the double-length rods are severed in the centre to form two filter-tipped cigarettes.
