In order to control positioning mechanisms on printing machines for longitudinal, transverse and diagonal register, in dependence upon a comparative evaluation of a reference signal with the measurement signal produced by a register mark recognition device, the register marks are formed from two accurately aligned apertures (7) facing one another outside the printing and inking area on one or both sides in each printing plate (6, Fig. 3). Light emitters (5A, 5B) or light receivers (12, 13, 72) are arranged in an opening in the outer surface of the plate cylinder (1) and form part of a register mark recognition device arranged after the accurately aligned apertures (7). Synchronously with the rotation of the plate cylinder (1), by means of a lens (8) of optimum light is shone through each accurately aligned aperture (7), projectable as a light-spot on the associated light receiver (12, 13, 72). <IMAGE> |
