PURPOSE:To increase the mechanical strength of a mirror body by using a reinforced ceramic sheet as the base of the mirror body. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a sheet 1 made of superhard reinforced ceramic is well polished, and on the smooth surface a film 2 for a mirror surface is formed. In order to obtain high reflectance, the film 2 is formed by vapor deposition, plating or other means with a metal or a metallic compound. A transparent film 3 may be laid to protect the film 2. Since the superhard reinforced ceramic has very high hardness and rigidity, mechanical strength higher than that of a conventional mirror body made of a glass plate having 1.0-1.5mm. thickness can be shown even if the thickness of the sheet 1 is reduced to about 0.1mm.. |
