The invention relates to a device for heating food, in particular meals and drinks, preferably coffee and tea, on board vehicles equipped with internal combustion engines. It has already been proposed to utilise the waste heat of the internal combustion engine when heating food on board buses in order to relieve the vehicle's electrical system. A tap-off of the cooling water circuit of the internal combustion engine is suitable for utilising the waste heat. However, with the proposed measures higher temperatures than the normal operating temperature of the cooling water circuit cannot be reached so that for example the preparation of coffee or tea for which the provision of boiling water is necessary cannot take place. According to the invention, a device of the previously designated type is provided which is characterised by a double-walled cooking vessel whose cavity located between the double walls is connected to a cooling water circuit of the internal combustion engine for the purpose of preheating the food and by an electric heating element which has an operative connection to the cooking space of the cooking vessel for the purpose of increasing the heating beyond the temperature of the cooling water circuit. The device according to the invention is thus suitable for heating meals and drinks on board vehicles, preferably buses, with advantageous utilisation of the waste heat of an internal combustion engine.
