On a track-guided vehicle (F), a response device (A) is provided which, in accordance with an associated item of information, transfers a response signal to an interrogating device (AB). The interrogating device (AB) is in each case associated with two antenna devices (A1, A2), the zones of action of which are aligned in such a manner that when the response device (A) passes, the latter first enters the zone of action of the first antenna device (A1), then an area of overlap of the zones of action of the two antenna devices (A1, A2) and lastly passes through the zone of action of the second antenna device (A2). The two antenna devices (A1, A2) in each case address one of two planes of polarisation which are perpendicular to one another. From the response device (A), the response signal is sent out in these two planes of polarisation. The overlapping influence on the antenna devices (A1, A2) supplies a criterion on the direction of the passage of a vehicle (F) with respect to the site of the interrogating device (AB) and thus also information on the state of occupancy of the two adjoining track sections (I, II). <IMAGE>
