A block-and-tackle is equipped with a clamping device arranged in one of the two blocks. In the clamping device, the free rope end is guided between a clamping body (9) and a clamping jaw (8) eccentrically mounted with regard to its roughly circular-arc-shaped clamping surface. In its direction of movement, the clamping jaw (8), provided with teeth (19) in the area of its clamping surface, essentially follows the pulling direction of the free rope end, accordingly changes the distance between its clamping surface and the clamping body (9) and thereby clamps or releases the rope end. The clamping body (9) is designed with a curved clamping surface (20) adapted to the radius of the clamping surface of the clamping jaw (8) with due allowance for the respective rope diameter. <IMAGE>
