In the device for measuring speed of rotation, a light beam which is split into two powerful beams is generated in a light source. The two partial beams pass along an optical fibre, which forms a closed light path, in opposite directions. When the device is rotated, the Sagnac effect generates between the two partial beams a phase shift from which the speed of rotation is determined. The optical fibre is embedded in a sealing compound, which is designed such that any sound waves impinging from outside are damped, and such that as uniform as possible a temperature distribution is produced along the optical fibre.
