Synthesis gas mixtures comprising H 2 and CO are made by a partial combustion process in which a mixture of O 2 and steam is passed to a reaction zone through a central conduit and a hydrocarbon fuel, e.g. methane, gasoline, crude oil or heavy fuel oil, optionally with further steam and/or CO 2 , through at least one concentric outer conduit, the first steam being mixed with the O 2 in amounts ranging from 0.5 to 5.5 % b.w. based on O 2 . Reaction temperatures and pressures range from 2000‹ to 3000‹ F. and 1 to 350 atmospheres. The reaction zone is unpacked and non-catalytic.</p> |
